Both approaches share a common flaw: they are blind. <\/p>\n\n<p>Predictive maintenance, powered by IIoT, is the answer to that blindness.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Pitfall of Preventive Maintenance<\/h2>\n\n<p>Preventive maintenance is better than no maintenance, of course. But it has a fundamental efficiency problem: it treats a machine that has been operating at its limit for three consecutive shifts the same as one that has had a gentle week. <\/p>\n\n<p>The result is two types of costly errors:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Premature intervention. You replace a belt or a bearing that still had useful life. Unnecessary downtime, wasted parts.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Late intervention. The inspection was scheduled for Friday, but the motor failed on Wednesday at 2 AM. Major breakdown, production halted, dissatisfied customer.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What IIoT Brings to Maintenance<\/h2>\n\n<p>The Industrial Internet of Things changes the equation because it shifts from time intervals to the machine&#8217;s actual condition. Instead of &#8220;check every 500 hours,&#8221; the system tells you: &#8220;this bearing shows unusual vibration in the 120-180 Hz band for the past 72 hours, and the trend is upward.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n<p>This allows intervention at precisely the right moment: neither too early nor too late. The most common parameters monitored for predictive maintenance are: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Vibration: detects wear in bearings, misalignments, and imbalances.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Temperature: thermal anomalies in motors, transformers, and hydraulic systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrical consumption: changes in a motor&#8217;s current curve reveal mechanical problems before they become visible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pressure and flow: in pneumatic and hydraulic systems, deviations from nominal values anticipate leaks or actuator failures.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Oil level and lubricant quality: in gearboxes and compressors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Real Case: The Motor That &#8216;Spoke&#8217;<\/h2>\n\n<p>One of our clients\u2014a metal component manufacturing plant\u2014had a compressor that failed on average twice a year, always at the worst times.
